Notes for Force Measurement

For Appropriate Force Measurement
Measuring instruments have to be used appropriately to perform test accurately. Please contact us or our distributors in your country if you have any concerns or questions about product selection or the way of use.

Measurement Unit

In Japan, “N(Newton)” is only allowed to use in force measurement due to Measurement Act of Japan.

Quality Assurance and Measurement Environment

  • We warrant the accuracy and other specifications under the environment of inspection data sheet provided by IMADA as an accessory of a force gauge. If the measuring environment will be different from this inspection data sheet, the result data will differ.
  • Accuracy of measuring instrument gets declined as time goes by. We recommend that a force gauge gets calibrated periodically although the best period varies according to frequency of use or load.

Selection of Suitable Range

Force measurement instruments would be broken if the load over capacity is added. Therefore, we recommend that you choose a little higher load capacity model than measuring load value that you expect.
Please refer to the following method to choose appropriate range.

Selection of Force Gauge

  • When you conduct impact or breaking test, in other words, in the case where measuring value changes sharply, we recommend that you select the load range as approx. twice as the load you intend to measure.
  • For example
    Measuring value:10N Digital force gauge: ZTS series
    Then, ZTS-20N whose range is as double as measuring value would be appropriate.
  • When you conduct elongation test, in other words, in the case where the transition of measuring value is slow, we recommend that you select the load range as approx. 1.5 times as the load you intended to measure.
  • For example
    Measuring value:30N Digital force gauge:DS2 series.
    Then, suitable capacity will be 45N, so DS2-50N, the closest load capacity one, would be appropriate.

Selection of Attachment

  • Please pay attention to weight of attachment
  • We recommend the weight of an attachment should be under 10% of a gauge capacity.
    Attachment weight is also load for the sensor of a gauge, which affects range of use or characteristics of force gauges.
  • It depends on your sample’s material or shape which attachment to use. So please contact us or our distributor in your country so that we offer advice to select the best one for your measurement.

Measurement Notes

Please make sure to wear protection for eyes and body while performing test if there are possibilities that fragments, fluid, or chemical substance could fly out.
Please do not use IMADA products for any other purpose than force measurement.

Mechanical Force Gauge

  • Please do not add load over capacity of a force gauge.
  • Please use compressive thread marked as “push” for compression test. So it is with tension test. Otherwise, it would be broken.
  • Please make sure to move its pointer needle back to zero slowly after measurement.
  • Please do not use it for cutting or breaking test since it is likely to be broken due to the impact by reaction force of spring.
  • Please make sure to add load in a straight direction along with measuring thread.

Digital Force Gauge

  • Please do not add load over capacity of a force gauge.
  • Please make sure to add load in a straight direction along with measuring thread.

Attachment

  • Please do not add load over capacity of a force gauge.
  • Please adjust power to mount an attachment on a force gauge, paying attention to load value displayed at force gauge. If you tighten it too much, it could cause breakdown of a gauge sensor.
  • Please do not tighten knob, lever, and screws too much when you fix a sample. If you tighten them too much, it could cause breakdown of attachments.

Test Stand

  • Please do not add load over capacity of a force gauge.
  • Precise measurement requires consist test speed and direction. Test stands make it possible, so please make use of them.
  • Please put test stands and desk top type torque tester on horizontal table or a stand. Please note that force gauge and attachment also should be placed horizontally/vertically for precise measurement.
  • Please make sure to add load in a straight direction along with measuring thread.
  • Please do not touch the moving part of a test stand during a test for your safety.

Keeping and Handling Notes

  • Please put a force gauge away in a dedicated plastic case soon after measurement to prevent overload.
  • Please do not add load to measuring thread or twist it even when it turns off. Please do not add load over the gauge’s capacity, otherwise it would be broken.
  • Please keep in a dark and cool place, avoiding dust, water and oil.
  • Please read an included instruction manual carefully to use IMADA product appropriately before use.
  • IMADA measuring instruments are precision instrument, so please handle them carefully.
  • Please do not disassemble, repair or remodel.
  • Please make sure to use genuine AC adapter and battery provided as an accessory of your force gauge by IMADA, otherwise, we do not apply warranty, and to make matters worse, non-genuine AC adapter or battery could cause breakdown or even fire.
  • Please do not use organic solvents such as thinner to clean IMADA ptoducts.
