Shear strength test of surface mounted devices is conducted based on IEC60068-2-21 (2006) [Environmental testing-Part 2-21: Tests-Test U: Robustness of terminations and integral mounting devices] (Corresponding part only). The standard requires that the jig to be pressed against the component at 5N for 10 seconds to check if the joint or component is damaged. In addition to such operational settings, it is easy to make repeated measurements because the sample can be set without stress by using the specially designed jig. This measurement is used for quality evaluation and quality control purpose.
