Plastic Sheet Shear Bond Strength Test

Joint Strength

Parts like two sheets (plates) bonded with an adhesive are common in kinds of products in various industries. In any manufacturing industry, it is vital to make sure that the bonding strength is sufficient, as there is a potential risk of damage to the product or injury to the user if the two sheets are easily peeled off due to the weak bonding strength. There are various test methods such as shearing, peeling and bending to measure the bonding strength. This video introduces shearing test, which means that both ends of the two sheets are gripped and pulled until they are separated. The sample in the video is a bonded plastic sheet, so a flat chuck with rubber bonded claws (optional) is used to prevent the sample surface from scratches or damages during test. The optional graphing software shows the entire force transition until the bonded part separates, which helps you analyze the bonding strength. Shear bond strength tests are widely applied for kinds of samples in various industries for quality evaluation and quality control.
